Grass cutting by the council on NMD

The areas in green on the map should be cut by the council every 4-5 weeks between March and October. Their teams manage around 265 hectares of green spaces across the Borough.  This includes sports pitches, parks, play areas, wildlife meadows, roadside verges and community spaces. Their green spaces team cut grass on all Hampshire County Council highway verges, Borough owned open spaces, recreation grounds and countryside sites.

April better than March

The sunshine and the need to burn off an excess of easter chocolate brought out a good-sized group of walkers this Tuesday. The truly awful weather in March had resulted in the cancellation of that walk, but no such problem this month. Precautionary coats were taken, but were thankfully not required.  If you would like to join one of our walks, we go out the first Tuesday of every month. We meet up between the Farmhouse and the community hall at 10:30. There is no charge to take part and we are a very relaxed social group.

If you would like to see the routes taken on our previous walks they are shown on the walks page of this website.

The tree is up in time for Christmas!

Funded by our Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations on the Green, we pledged to plant a tree in honour of Her Majesty’s 70 years of service. After a lot of communications between North Miller’s Dale Community Association, the Council and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, we have, at last, purchased a common oak (Quercus robur). On the Wednesday just before Christmas we planted it on the edge of the Flexford Nature Reserve.

Neville and Charlie dug out the hole, and excited members of the Little Delwood Kindergarten helped us to return the soil and leaf mould around the roots of the young tree. An anti rabbit and deer guard was put around the lower part of the tree and a wooden supporting stake hammered into the ground. It should thrive and grow much larger and it may supply some shelter to passengers waiting at the nearby bus stop. Hopefully, it will provide 70 years of service (or more) to the Miller’s Dale community.
